We have both a public and a private face

Our public faces are masks and veils that hide our true face

Our public faces are really just masks and veils that we hide behind so that no one will see our true face, our private face.

The reason why we choose to hide our true faces, is out of fear of being rejected, we are afraid that if others see the real us, with all our flaws, our faults and our idio-syncrasies, they won't like us or accept us.

So instead of being ourselves we choose to hide behind masks and disguises and show others only our public face, the face that we think they want to see so that we can to blend in. But in doing so, lose ourselves.

The trade off is, that we never become who we were really meant to be and we never reach our full potential, because we are too busy trying to please everyone else. But let me let you in on a little secret, if we are ever going to be truly happy, content and enjoy a fulfilling truly satisfying life, first, we must learn to like and accept ourselves for who we are, and then we must learn to like and accept others for who they are.

We are too quick to trade and exchange our own personal, individual, Taylor made, customized dreams and passions, so we can join the rest of the world and share their prefabricated, off the shelf, one size fits all, mass produced, generic, preprocessed, readymade synthetic dreams that will only lead to disappointment and heartbreak.

But why, are we so willing and in such a big hurry to give up everything that makes us unique, special, and one of a kind, so that we try to fit in and be just like everyone else? Is it truly worth the high price we end up paying? Why, are we so willing to give up our individuality to become a carbon copy, a cheap knock-off, an imitation of everyone else?

No one wants to feel like an outsider, a nobody who doesn't belong, but just how much, of ourselves, our dignity and our self-respect are we willing to give up so we can fit in?
